Silvia Mertins is a catholic songwriter and singer who was born
in Guatemala City, Central America. She has been singing and writing songs since she was twelve years old, wishing to be a
famous international artist, but the Lord changed her plans the day he came into her life one beutiful day of march 1982.
She had singing classes with guatemalan teachers Judy Fuentes
(soprano) and Alberto Navas. Silvia has participated in several Opera concerts in Guatemala, singing famous areas like "Ritorna
Vincitor" (Aida- Verdi), Libiamo ("La Traviatta"- Verdi), "Un bel di vedremo" (Madame butterfly - Pucchini), etc. She also
studied piano with maestros Enrique Raudales and Ricardo del Carmen, who was the director of the Symphonic orchestra of Guatemala.
Silvia was also a member of the "Ricardo del Carmen" choir, directed by maestro del Carmen himself.
Silvia was the director of the "Pescadores" group that soon
became the "Buenas Nuevas" group dedicated to evangelize through their music. As the time passes, each member of the group
decided to dedicate themselfs to other careers so the group became the "Buenas Nuevas" duet, integrated by Irenne Coronado
and Silvia Mertins until 1878 when Silvia decided to be a soloist. Her spiritual director and assesor is Father Hugo Estrada
s.d.b. who is actually the assesor to the Charismatic Catholic Renewal of Guatemala.
Silvia has served several praying groups in Guatemala like "Renacer",
"Amanecer", "María Auxiliadora", "Comunidad Siloé", Adac (Asociación de Damas católicas), "Apostolado del Espíritu Santo",
"Centro Misionero Católico", etc. She has participated in many concerts, Congresses, and spiritual retreats as a preacher
and singer and has also been invited to: El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panamá, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Perú and some states
of the USA like: Oxnard Ca, Los Angeles Ca, Miami Fl, West Palm Beach Fl, San Antonio Tx, El Paso Tx, Alburquerque NM, La
Mesa NM, Las Cruces, NM, Roswell NM Denver Co, Carbondale Co, Houston Tx and Lafayette La.
She has also been invited to several mexican cities as: Ciudad
Juárez Ch, Ch, Cuautehmoc Ch, Casas Grandes Ch, México D.F., Lerma Edo. de México, Ecatepec Edo. de México, Guadalajara, Monterrey,
Tijuana, Torreón Coahuila, Querétaro, León Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Culiacán Sinaloa, Puebla and Toluca. She has also
been at Israel, Pompey (Italy) and Spain.
In 1995 Silvia had a terrible depression who took her away from
her ministry for two long years and had to had psichiatric therapy. Her spiritual assesor and praying group never stoped praying
for her. She received the blood and the body of our Lord Jesuschrist almost every day as she went almost daily to Mass. Silvia
is sure that it was the reason why she got out of her illness so soon and today, she is still working in her music ministry
with the same love and passion of ever.
Silvia Mertins is now a member of the San Pedro's healing ministry
of Guatemala, wich is directed by preacher and songwriter Magdalena Arimany.
